A Farewell to Fall

April-ChristensenToday is Thanksgiving, which is certainly a time to be appreciative, but also collectively a time to  goodbye to autumn and a hello to winter. We know it can be heard to let go of orange sunsets, colorful trees, and crisp afternoons. That is exactly why we are giving you a little eye candy by April Marie Photography. We asked April to share her captivating fall photography and to share what she loves about Thanksgiving!

Holidays-02“Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays! I enjoy planning sessions during this time of year, and not just because of all the beautiful, bright colors. It’s so much fun to shoot a laughing family, playing in the leaves. Or a young lady, embracing the cool weather with a scarf and a thick, wooly sweater.”

Holidays-07“It makes my heart flutter when I think about wrapping myself up in a warm blanket, a cup of tea by my side, and editing all the beautiful pictures that I’ve taken. I am unbelievably blessed to love and be good at what I do. Especially during Thanksgiving!”

We want to let all of you know how thankful we are for your continuing support and kind words! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

How to Spruce Up the Kids Table this Thanksgiving!

This week’s event post comes to us from our Creative Contributor, Paula Biggs of Frog Prince Paperie! With Thanksgiving coming up, it’s the perfect time to share this “We Are So Thankful” party complete with Thanksgiving-themed printables (available here) and a beautiful display for the kids’ table that will hopefully inspire you this Thanksgiving! Who knows, it may even become the most popular table at the party.  😉

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and be grateful for the many things that we have and spend some quality time with those we love. For adults, these sentiments come fairly easy. For those a bit younger, it’s another day they have to sit still and mind their manners at the table. Of course, the kids in many families get sent to the “kid’s table” for the meal while the grown-ups chat. Some children might be lucky enough to sit with mom and dad.

This year’s Thanksgiving tablescape was designed around the idea of making a table that was festive for adult, but also kid-friendly. Ribbon wrapped roses, small boxes with things to do after dinner is done, and fun floral arrangements all in bright and bold colors are the perfect combination for turkey day.

I hope this provides a bit of inspiration to enliven your dinner on this year’s thankful day!

You can find the printables seen in this party in Paula’s Etsy shop – Frog Prince Paperie.

"Happy Gobble Day" – A Thanksgiving Party Just for Kids!

Maureen & Adria of AndersRuff!

At Thanksgiving dinner, if you have children, you know that its hard to enjoy the fruits of your labor when the kiddies are crawling all over you.  We know that all too well and decided that this year we would put together a printable design collection that included plenty of designs, inspiration and ideas to keep the kiddies occupied and happy.  You will be THANKFUL that you set them up in their adorable little “kiddie” table with what we are about to show you.

We shot this collection at a beautiful timber frame home in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.  Steve Frellick, owner of Yonder Luxury Mountain Rentals (yondernc.com), built the home and has the most amazing mountain homes that he rents.  It was the perfect setting with the timber beams and rustic charm along with the fall leaves in the mountain.  Yonder also has beautiful lofts to rent for vacations in downtown Asheville.

We styled a kids table with floor seating in the loft of the Yonder mountain home at a cocktail table to show you how easy it is to make a cozy, stylish and interesting seating option for kids at Thanksgiving.  After all, if you have a big family, sometimes you run out of tables and chairs and need another option for the little tikes.

We love how the look of floor pillows at parties (inpsired by www.meandriley.com) so we had Made by Morgan (www.madebymorganwiebke.etsy.com) make us coordinating floor pillows that matched our printable colors/patterns.

For the printable decor and design, we focused on the colors of browns, rusty orange, lime green and cream. Patterns include faux bois / wood grain, a fun gobble scallop pattern, houndstooth, herringbone and check. Our new “Happy Gobble Day” printable collection (available in the shop www.andersruff.etsy.com) includes some really fun new design concepts such as our pumpkin pie favor box printable, turkey crayon wrap and adorable printable pilgrim hats and feather headdresses.

Instead of showing a dessert table, we focused on how to display treats and favors as a centerpiece on a children’s table.  We wanted to incorporate a lot of natural elements so we used tree stumps of varying heights and widths as an abstract centerpiece.  These were used as the treat and favor stands.  This is a very easy DIY project.  We had Adria’s husband saw one of their fallen trees into slices and then we just lightly sanded the edges to make them smooth.  We displayed the wood cuts down the center of the table and displayed our treats throughout the centerpieces.  We also displayed a side table for favors and beverages as well as a decor table with custom pillows by MonMell Designs and a beautiful mum as well as our printable “thankful for” cards.   We hung a “Happy Gobble Day” banner on the rail of the loft. The timber beams of the home were a wonderful backdrop and the kids felt like they were in their own “fort”.

For the main seating table, the log centerpieces were topped with pies, cookie sandwiches, cookies, donuts and our new pumpkin pie favor box printable.  We filled the pumpkin pie printable favor box with shred and various candy corns and pumpkins.  Most kids don’t love pumpkin pie, but to keep it festive, we displayed a pumpkin pie box with candies that all kids love!

We embellished the pies and cookies with fondant from Two Sugar Babies as well as printable party flags from our collection.  We adore the gingerbread eggnog sandwich cookies from Red Bird Bakery and wrapped a stack of these cookies with ribbon and topped them with one of Two Sugar Babies fondant toppers.  These fit perfectly on our log.  We also scattered festive felted acorns from Lebox Boutique.

For the childrens’ place settings, we cut rectangles of burlap to mat our printable coloring placemat from the collection.  We also show bundled crayons with our turkey printable wrapper around it. These were also displayed on various wood slices.  (Adria’s husband cut up a fallen tree for us to use!).

We dressed up bamboo forks and spoons at the table to show how to spruce up your typical silverware.  We added corn husks and tissue paper as well as printable feather and flag embellishments.

A side table displayed beverages and favor bags where we embellished the items with our printable party logos from the collection.  Gords and felted acorns adorned the table.  We displayed mason jars for beverages and added a party logo and cinnimon stick on the tops of the glasses.

We are so excited to announce that we have teamed up with a new company, MonMell Designs.  We are excited to announce the extension of our line of graphic printables to home decor! MonMell Designs is a new business specializing in embellished, hand-crafted burlap pillows.  Each of the designs are the creation of co-owners Stephanie (Mon)ge and Heather (Mell)strom. In collaboration with MonMell Designs, you can now enjoy the Anders Ruff Gobble Gobble collection in decorative hand-crafted and embellished pillows.  We fell in love with their style! Their pillows have printed artwork and are embellished by hand with decor fabrics, trims, tassels, ribbons and a wide assortment of “pretties”.

At each place setting, we also displayed a fun take home favor by MonMell that added such a cute touch to the table.  MonMell incorporated Anders Ruff graphics onto burlap envelopes sized to fit a printable perfect for writing all that you and your guests are thankful for. Or you can stuff the envelopes with Autumn sweet treats, crayons, or any other ‘gobbly’ goodies!

After the inside party, we took the children outdoors to take a hike in the mountains and they loved throwing leaves at the top of the mountain.  The kids brought some of their favors from the table to enjoy on our walk.  The kids were sporting custom clothing from Made by Morgan.  The boys wore tie applique t-shirts and the girls had custom dresses.

The “Happy Gobble Day” printables are available in the shop on sale at www.andersruff.etsy.com (21 pages of printable designs for $12!)
