Gone Fishing Boys Bedroom Theme

I attended a two-year-old birthday party last weekend filled with children who were obsessed with Sponge Bob! I did come across one boy, a ten-year-old Matthew, who told me about his fishing trip that morning. He and his father went down to a creek behind their house and spent the morning fishing and exploring the surrounding area filled with insects, foliage and animals. Matthew was now all about fishing! He is the perfect example of how quickly a child’s interests can change. One day it’s a Sponge Bob and the next week it’s fishing. Thank you Matthew for sharing with me your excitement about fishing! His enthusiasm inspired me to come up with a fishing themed bedroom. Now here are some ideas for designing a fishing themed bedroom!

Art – First and foremost when I thought about a fishing bedroom my mind immediately went to all of the amazing children’s art we carry on The first piece that came to mind is the Motions To Cast Canvas Reproduction by MaryJack Studios. The text on this piece reads, “A day so perfect had come at last. Practiced were all the motions to cast. Found already was the bait. And now so patiently all to do is wait.” Laura Hescock, artist for MaryJack Studios and mother of two, paints the perfect picture of what it’s like to go fishing! I would pair the Motions To Cast Canvas Reproduction with The Boat Canvas Reproduction also by MaryJack Studios.

Bedding – I’ve chosen the appropriately named Fisherman’s Quilt by Serena and Lily. This bedding combines a stonewashed color palate with contrasting colors of blue, gray and yellow. Cotton fish are stitched upon the quilt in an intricate design that is perfect for your little fisherman!

Children’s Furniture – For this bedroom, I love the antique look of the Basecamp Collection of furniture by Young America by Stanley. If you go with Young America by Stanley you will definitely get quality, functional pieces that will last a lifetime. For fun, add the Bosuns Gig Shelving Unit. This piece will give the room a genuine nautical feel because this shelf looks like a smaller version of a real sea-going vessel!

The Great Outdoors Kids Room

Bring the trees, animals and adventure into your child’s room by creating a Great Outdoors theme! Here are a few tips on how to create a natural woodland environment indoors.

Children’s Bedding – To start, I love our very popular George Bedding Collection by Serena & Lily. The George Duvet features slate seersucker with goldenrod piping that will work well for a child at any age. Also, this classic bedding is perfect if you want to accessorize the room with animal decor, natural woodland decor, or a mix of both!

Furniture – This bedding looks great with our Treasure Collection of kids furniture by AP Industries. The Treasure Collection is made of solid birch and comes in the finish of your choice! For a real outdoors feel I would suggest the amaretto or camel finish. My favorite piece in the collection is the Treasure Bookcase Headboard Bed. This bed combines comfort and versatility so your child can sleep well and stay organized. The bookcase headboard is a great storage addition without taking up too much space so your child can have enough room to relax and play.

Decor and Lighting – For a younger child I would suggest going with more playful colors and friendly animal prints. For example, the Friendly Forest growth chart by Oopsy Daisy is a great addition to an outdoor-themed room and makes tracking your child’s growth a fun activity for both parent and child. Oopsy Daisy has many other examples of nature-themed prints, such as the Ants Canvas Reproduction and the Tree Buddies Canvas. For a tween or teen, I would go with a more natural environment with a modern twist. For example, accent with Silver Numbers Wooden Wall Clock and our Modern Organics Three Light Pendant with Bamboo Stem Material in Polished Chrome. My favorite accent for this room would have to be the Stump Accent Table or Stool by Jane Gray for Stray Dog Designs. This piece is great as a bedside table or to use as extra seating and looks as if it came right out of the forest!

Playtime – Entertain your children for hours by adding the Great Plains Teepee to their room. These teepees are made from genuine canvas and are paintable, perfect for your little artist or adventure-seeker. Your child’s great outdoors themed room isn’t complete without animals! McNuttie the Squirrel from BlaBla makes for an excellent playmate and snuggle buddy.

Fiona Bedding Set

Fiona Bedding Set

Choosing the perfect bedding set for a youth bedroom is a collaborative effort between parents and children, both of whom have their own set of concerns. Kids immediately gravitate towards their favorite colors, the latest trends, and pop culture characters that their friends will love. Parents, on the other hand, have practical matters on the brain. You want your child to enjoy coming home to a warm, inviting bed, but you also care about getting the best value for your money. That means tracking down a set that feels unique and exciting, while promoting quality, versatility, and of course, longevity.

If you’re tired of hunting through catalog after catalog of ordinary children’s bedding, then Serena & Lily may have an eye-catching collection to match your child’s dynamic personality. Serena & Lily is the brainchild of two innovative entrepreneurs with a vibrant aesthetic and a commitment to delivering products that meet the needs of parents and children. Bedding Collections for Boys and Girls

Caroline BeddingIn addition to designing baby bedding, Serena & Lily understands the traits that appeal to kids and teens. They don’t simply make sheets and comforters for children; Serena & Lily bedding is about designing for little people with their own sense of style, who are growing and becoming individuals with each passing year. Serena & Lily bedding sets for boys and girls evoke the feeling of a world traveler, bringing together classic European elements with Eastern influences. Sets for boys have minimalist attributes that add masculinity, while the girls bedding has a quiet glamour and drama that never becomes overpowering.

Every girl will love the stylishness and grace of the Caroline Bedding Set. The duvet cover is made in pale green with an elegant white damask rose pattern and light pink button closures. Other items in the Caroline set feature pale pink accents, alongside exotic trellis patterns, and scalloping details on the bed skirt. Don’t hesitate to check out the many bedding sets Serena & Lily has to offer for both nursery’s and youth bedrooms. There will be no need for a parent-child compromise – you’ll both be satisfied!

Serena & Lily Patterns – Bohemian and Beautiful

A while back I read a great design tip from the Serena & Lily blog on how to achieve a bohemian patchwork look with your bedding. They suggest you mix and match patterns on the sheeting and shams: plaids, stripes and checks. The juxtaposition of these pieces will add layers of character to the room. I just love that. Actually, the more I think about it, I really love that. Not only is it a great way to play designer when you really are clueless to what you are doing, there is also a certain creative freedom that comes with a bohemian look. You don’t have to choose just bedding that is striped from sham to bolster to fitted sheet. You can choose to bring visual interest by staying in the same color scheme but use patterns that will play off of each other and make your eyes dance. Now doesn’t that sound much more interesting and exciting? Perhaps this is also why I love Serena & Lily so much. This seems to be the rule of thumb they use when creating their bedding sets. Their fabrics are not only unique but the combination of patterns they use in their bedding sets are just irresistible.

Take a look at how their Sadie Bedding Set combines different patterns. The duvet is a melon/white rugby stripe with sprout houndstooth on the reverse and sprout piping. The shams are color block and houndstooth, and the bed sheets are an adorable floral in the same melon and sprout colors. Just think…if someone told you their bedding was rugby stripes, houndstooth and floral, you would probably wince in pain, but look how great it all comes together and how it is anything but boring.

Sadie Bedding

In a similar way, Serena and Lily’s Eve bedding collection is bright and cheery but with a touch of sophistication. They accomplish this by using aqua and melon for their color palette, beautiful embroidery on the duvet, sham, and edging of the bedskirt, and mosaic patterned sheets. When you look at this bedding set, don’t you just want to take it all in, like a breath of fresh air?

Eve Bedding

When they talk about the combination of different patterns in creating a bohemian look, I cant help but mention one of Serena & Lily’s crib sets – the Dylan. A bumper of fascinating animals is set next to a patterned crib sheet, and the crib skirt is plain with a band of color and contrasting trim to tie in the colors of the set. The end result is fresh and calming, giving your little boy the perfect setting for many hours of peaceful sleep.

Dylan Crib Set

Overall, I am obviously a huge fan of Serena & Lily for many reasons, but the one that truly stands out to me is their ability to bring together patterns that you would otherwise keep separate. This eye for design and style is a talent and they not only have it but they have also perfected it. be sure to take your time and check out their complete collection on Rosenberry Rooms! Happy Shopping!
