Stella’s Modern Girly Nursery

It’s always exciting to come across photos of our customers’ rooms on Instagram. One customer, Brooke, had posted a couple pics of her daughter Stella’s nursery. It is so adorable, we asked if we could share those pics and more on our blog!

11004011_942501032428802_1852076731_nInspired by Kourtney Kardashian’s nursery for daughter Penelope, Brooke added personal touches that baby Stella can treasure for years to come. She designed the print above the crib and the pray sign that sits on the shelf. 11005924_942501669095405_1318891376_n copy11004948_942501589095413_280980394_nThe Newport Cottages bookcase displays dolls, personalized items, and pretty vintage decor.11005749_942501925762046_1803899007_nBrooke found the mirror (which hangs above the crisp white changing table) at an antique store and painted it gold. A Lovely Lark Family Christmas

What inspired you to create A Lovely Lark?

After having my first daughter, Violet, I fell in love with children’s design and decor. I love that it’s all so fun and whimsical. There are really no rules – the sky’s the limit! While I was already admittedly a bit of a blog addict, there weren’t many resources out there for cute/modern kids’ design, so I decided to start my own!

Your home is gorgeous! What was your favorite room to makeover and why?

Thank you! My favorite rooms to makeover have definitely been my girls’ rooms. I felt like there were really no rules – I could really get creative and play with color, pattern, and all of those sweet, whimsical elements that really make a child’s room feel special. Plus I loved adding personal touches like the tree mural in Violet’s nursery and the cloud mural in Violet’s big girl room.

A-Lovely-Lark-Violet's-Room-Update-6A-Lovely-Lark-Living-Room-Family-Room-Art-Wall-15A-Lovely-Lark-Wood-Floors-Kitchen-RenovationWhat has been your favorite DIY project? Tell us about it!

My favorite recent DIY Project was the water table that I created for the girls this summer. They are both obsessed with water and I wanted to give them a fun, but safe place to play outside while I was pulling weeds or doing other not-so-fun outdoor chores. At the same time I didn’t want a plastic monstrosity that would sit on my patio for a few years and then be shipped off to the donation pile or a landfill somewhere. So instead I created a DIY water table out of a thrifted side table and a deep metal tray. It took a little elbow grease, but they love it. We can also use it as a sensory table with sand or rocks in the cooler fall months, and I love that when they outgrow it it could take on a new purpose as a pretty outdoor planter.

DIY-Water-Table-A-Lovely-Lark-3What do you like best about your work? What is the most challenging?

I love having a creative outlet. While I absolutely love and cherish my role as a mother, since having children I’ve sometimes felt like I lost a piece of myself. My needs are no longer first and finding time for those things that were previously my hobbies and interests can be very difficult. Blogging has helped me to hold onto a little piece of myself that I otherwise feel like would be completely swept away in the crazy ride that is motherhood. I also love that I have a way to support my family that allows me to spend more time with my girls. My writing has allowed me to take over a year of unpaid maternity leave and to recently return to work part-time rather than full-time. I’ve also met some really amazing people through the blogging world. The thing I’m currently finding the most challenging is just having the time and energy to write after a long day of work, making meals, giving baths, romping around the yard, playing princesses, reading books, and you know, just being a human being. The most important thing for me is being present for my girls and maintaining a strong and healthy relationship with my husband. My family comes first, and finding a balance between work, motherhood, marriage, and writing has been especially challenging.

photo 1How would you describe your style?

I would definitely describe it as happy and whimsical, with a mix of both traditional and modern elements. I have an equal love of the bright, clean feeling of white and bold, vibrant color, so I love creating rooms with a very light overall palette that have pops of color throughout. I also enjoy playing with pattern and texture, so I’ve used a lot of wallpaper, playful fabrics, and patterned rugs throughout my home.

IMG_2660 A-Lovely-Lark-DIY-Banner-5If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

I’m kind of obsessed with Peter Walsh and would be insanely thrilled to have him work with me on organizing my home. Back in the Oprah days I used to dream that he would – Surprise! – show up at my door. Unfortunately, (considering that I’m not a hoarder) I knew that it would never happen, but a girl can dream, right?! While I do my best with keeping the toys and general clutter under control, I just know that there are all sorts of tips and tricks that he could teach me for making the most of our tiny home.

Do you have advice for other working moms?

You’re doing okay, ma. When you start to feel that mom guilt creeping in or those feelings that you aren’t enough, remember that you’re doing the very best you can for your kids and you’re enough. I love the saying, “You can do anything, but not everything.” It’s helped me to remember to choose what I’m going to make a priority in my life and I try to do my very best at those few things. I may have a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, I might not craft up Martha Stewart-worthy Halloween costumes, or create perfectly styled Bento-box lunches, but do you know what? That’s okay. If you’re keeping your kids safe and making them feel loved, then you’re doing it right, period.

A Lovely Lark AboutIf you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I absolutely loved our honeymoon to Germany and Austria and would go back in a heartbeat. I’d also love to visit more European countries – they’re just so different from our young country. I’ve visited Australia a few times now (my sister and her family live there), and while it’s so unique and beautiful in its own way, there’s nothing quite like the sense of history and depth that you experience in Europe.

What are your 3 favorite Rosenberry Rooms products?

1. Aden + Anais swaddle blankets

2. Blabla Knit Dolls (Love Wooly the Sheep!)

3. Little Auggie’s Pretty With Pink collection

Laurens-PicksWhat’s next for A Lovely Lark (upcoming events, projects, etc.)?

I’m so excited to be putting the finishing touches (finally) on Lucy’s nursery! I’m currently working with Restoration Hardware to finish off the space and I’m thrilled with how it’s all coming together. I’m also working on my annual holiday gift guides, which are always super fun to put together!DSC05693Be sure to check out Lauren’s blog, A Lovely Lark, for beautiful inspiration and fun DIY projects!

Meet Mandy of House of Rose!

Happy Monday! I’m so excited to start of the week by sharing our interview with Mandy of House of Rose! You may recognize some of her design projects from Pinterest because they are being repinned like crazy. Her creative eye, bubbly personality, and serious love for a good gallery wall, make Mandy a DIY-er to watch! As a mother of 3, soon to be 4, she also has an eye for decorating kids’ rooms which you will see below. So with that, take it away Mandy!

Hi, I’m Mandy! Boy mom, fountain coke lover and DIY wanna-be! I run a lifestyle blog called House of Rose.

What inspired you to be a blogger/designer/DIY-er?

My husband is the one who initially inspired me to start blogging in early 2008. He is an avid personal finance blogger and had been hounding me for months to start a blog.

I kept seeing all of these amazing people he was meeting online {and I may have been a little jealous}. We had just had our first child and I thought it would be a great way to get support from other moms out there. I didn’t blog much about home decor and DIY until I quit my full time job and started to realize I had a passion for decorating! I followed a lot of decor blogs and became inspired by them to start blogging about the process of making our house a home!

What is your favorite part of your daily work…when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

The support and comments that I receive from my readers! I want to be a positive influence for other moms out there and I try to do that be being transparent and sharing my family openly. I love to hear when something I have written has helped or impacted someone in a positive way.

I began a vlog link up called Stop & Smell the Roses where we film a monthly video talking about something that we are thankful for or something that is making us smile. One of my favorite comments came from a mother who was stationed in Iraq and said she had been weeks without smiling. She started to watch all of the videos that linked up and explained how just hearing about the things that were making people smile brightened her day. It was the first time she had smiled in weeks!

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Drink LOTS of caffeine! Bahaha! Kidding…kind of.

For me, time management is key. If I don’t have my day planner open with my to-do list in front of me…I find myself distracted on Pinterest for hours {y’all have been there, right?}. I usually have a “must do” list and a “would like to do” list. Of course, I work on my “must do” list first and when I have crossed off all of my tasks I get to move on to my “would like to do” list without feeling guilty.

What is your most memorable design project?

That’s a hard one! I like them all! Haha!

project 2

I would probably say either my Fireplace Makeover or my Master Bedroom.

The fireplace makeover was so dramatic and I love the transformation that it did to our family room!

But, my master bedroom has, BY FAR, been the most popular on Pinterest. I like the simplicity of it and the warmth.

Of course, if you follow my blog then you know I am obsessed with gallery walls. I keep joking that I am running out of wall space and will soon have to start decorating friends’ walls. LOL!

If you could decorate a room for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I definitely don’t feel qualified to decorate anyone’s room. Haha! I would absolutely DIE to decorate WITH Tori Spelling! I love her design ideas and taste!

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

In blog world it is so easy to be inspired because there are so many amazingly creative people on the web! I would have to say that I have been the most inspired by the bloggers that go on Compassion trips. I have a love for orphans and adoption and I have been so inspired by some of these awesome women who have traveled abroad to spread God’s love. I would love to be able to do that one day! Who knows what the future holds, right?

Where is your favorite place you have traveled to?

I’m a home body! I know…gasp. My husband loves to travel the world and I would rather be sitting at home. Haha! He is slowly bringing me to the other side. So far my favorite place has been the Riveria Maya. We went there on our honeymoon and it was gorgeous!

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

I am most excited about our upcoming trip to the Philippines to pick up our newest child. It will be the farthest I have ever traveled {21 hours in a plane}…whoa! But I can not wait!

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

Definitely the DwellStudio Transportation Bedding that I used for my oldest son’s big boy room!

big boy room collage IMG_9652_3

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

I mentioned we are traveling to the Philippines soon…because we are adopting!! We are so excited to become a family of six! I’m planning some really fun room ideas for our newest child too! 😉

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food Sushi

Favorite TV Show The Bachelor or Tom & Jerry…the only two shows I watch. Truth? I rarely watch tv. Too busy chasing kids or decorating rooms. LOL!

Favorite Movie Forrest Gump

Favorite Weekend Activity Dinner with my husband! I love to try out new restaurants. My absolute favorite thing to do is to have dinner at one restaurant and then head to a different restaurant for dessert!

Favorite Musician/Band Hillsong and Gavin Degraw

Tips for Online Shopping During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is here which means the weather outside is frightful and the malls may not be so delightful. Shopping during the holidays with kids in tow was once an unavoidable task. Now shoppers are trading their time in the checkout line for time at home with their families by shopping online. To help with the process, we came up with these tips to help point you in the right direction when it comes to shopping online for kids during the holiday season.

  1. What are the best gifts to buy online for kids? Look for products that are small and quick to ship. First, anything personalized will make a great gift for a newborn. For example, personalized Christmas ornaments are a great way to commemorate baby’s first Christmas. Growth charts are also a great gift option for both parent and child. Oopsy Daisy’s growth charts make tracking your child’s growth a fun activity to be enjoyed throughout the year, not to mention the vibrant prints are sure to delight your child. Consider adding a matching wall decal or nightlight which will be low cost and easy to ship. Finally, you can never go wrong with a stuffed toy, like the Violet Doll by BlaBla. Bold colors and whimsical designs make these toys the perfect playmate for any child.
  2. Make sure you review shipping times and product availability before making your purchase. When ordering online, it is important to order large items like custom furniture, at least two months in advance. Smaller items, such as wall art or ornaments are easier to ship, and may be ordered up to two weeks in advance though it depends on the individual seller. A huge benefit to shopping online is the ability to comparison shop. Obviously price is important to compare but don’t forget to compare product availability and shipping times. At Rosenberry Rooms we want to make the holiday season as stress-free as possible. To do this we’ve taken the time to list the availability and approximate shipping times on each of our products’ pages.
  3. Call customer service. After you have researched the products you are interested in call customer service to confirm the availability of those products. Contacting customer service before making a purchase is a great way to avoid shipping-time anxiety or back-order headaches.
  4. Ask about sales and promotions. If a site does not say free shipping it doesn’t hurt to call and ask. Sometimes companies will give discounts to customers who place their orders over the phone, so definitely call. Also social media sites such as Facebook are a great place to find holiday promotions and discounts.

We hope your holiday shopping experience is a good one!

Children of Celebrites: Girls Rooms

Living the in the limelight isn’t always easy, especially when you’re a toddler with celebrity parents. However, these young Hollywood kids have taken to that life with ease, elegance and a great sense of style. Their distinct style is what inspired us to put together these Children of Celebrites: Girls Rooms.

The Suri Room

Whether she is jet setting to either of her celebrity parents’ movie sets or taking a walk in the park, Suri Cruise has shown she is more than capable of maintaining her own sense of comfortable and classy style. The mini Hollywood fashionista is frequently seen wearing trendy frocks and classy kitten heels. Her classic but trendy style is what inspired us to put together these pieces to create a room that is “oh-so-Suri.” The first is the Catalina Duvet by Serena & Lily. We love the boldness of the print accented in a classic navy color. The contrast between the two creates a nautical inspired room that remains very vogue.

The name Suri is a Persian name meaning “red.” So naturally, we wanted to accent the boldness of the duvet with this bright red Fleur Di Lis mirror. The antique mirror adds to the classic feel of this room, but gives a fun pop of color to the room.  We also included the Lucky Elephant in Red Canvas Reproduction by Oopsy Daisy. The colors in this print work with both the bedding and the mirror, and make the space appropriate and inspiring for a four-year-old TomKitten. Finally, we accented Suri’s trendy space with a little sparkle from the 6-light White Crystal Chandelier. This handmade chandelier boasts a traditional design accented with contemporary touches such as twinkling teardrop crystals.

The Violet Room

Not unlike Suri Cruise, four-year-old Violet Affleck is known for her princess style and love of tea parties. However, as she’s grown we’ve noticed a sassy streak in Ms. Affleck’s sense of style. This led to the creation of an urban princess inspired room. For Violet’s room, we wanted to combine feminine accents with sassy colors, so naturally we chose the Boutique Pink duvet cover by Caden Lane. The duvet features a mix of floral print and pink zebra stripes that add a touch of sass to Violet’s bedroom. We accented this bedding with the Bubble Gum Shaggy Raggy Rug by the Rug Market. This unique rug is a vibrant and plushy accent piece, supporting the bring pink of the bedding. We also loved the fun and unique shape of the Scalloped Monogram Wall Decal by Alphabet Garden Designs. Finally, we wanted to add a luxurious touch to Violet’s room and did so by adding the Amanda Chandelier. The chandelier’s design draws on the floral pattern from the duvet print but doesn’t overwhelm the room. The small crystal beads add a little sparkle and put the finishing touch on this urban princess’s chamber.

The Shiloh Room

Born in the African country of Namibia into a family that already boasts American, Cambodian, and Ethiopian backgrounds, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt has proven herself more than capable of keeping up with her jet-setting parents. Living with five other siblings has led Shiloh to create her own sense of style, which has been both praised and scrutinized by the press. However you feel about her tomboy look, we’re sure you’ll love the nature inspired space we’ve created for her. We love the Oopsy Daisy canvas reproduction entitled Tree Buddies, so we let it inspire the rest of our room. The vibrant colors pop off the canvas and the cute woodland creatures will delight any animal lover. The bright green leaves in canvas reproduction are emphasized with Serena and Lilly’s Classic Whites Grass Bedding collection. The simplistic print may give off a sense of sophistication for a four-year-old, however we like the minimalist style, which adds a feeling of serenity and peace to the room. We also like the intense green of the Gabby Pendant by Jane Gray for Stray Dog Designs. Hand-painted by Mexican artisans, the delightful sprigs of leaves offer a creative way to bring light into any room, and highlight Shiloh’s distinct personality and charm.

As the daughter of parents who are known for their support of humanitarian aid,  Shiloh spends a lot of her time traveling across the world. Whether she is in Namibia or New Orleans, it is important to keep her animal friends close at hand. This is why we’ve chosen the  Lime Polka Dot Duffel Bag by Four Peas to accent Shiloh’s nature inspired space. We love the bold print, not to mention the sensible design that makes it easy to for a child to transport their most precious cargo from place to place.

So which bedroom fits your little girl? Is she a Suri, Violet or Shiloh? Whatever the style, Rosenberry Rooms has all of the pieces to create a custom space for your little fashionista.
