Modern Marsala Nursery

color-of-the-year-2015Who says Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala, isn’t a good fit for the nursery? This red-brown hue may seem like an unconventional choice, but that’s why we love it!

Try mixing it into a modern-and-minimal, black-and-white nursery design for a totally unique look! This color scheme can work for both a boy or a girl and provides just enough edginess while still being fun, bold and playful.

Meet Lauren of A Lovely Lark!

A Lovely Lark Family Christmas

What inspired you to create A Lovely Lark?

After having my first daughter, Violet, I fell in love with children’s design and decor. I love that it’s all so fun and whimsical. There are really no rules – the sky’s the limit! While I was already admittedly a bit of a blog addict, there weren’t many resources out there for cute/modern kids’ design, so I decided to start my own!

Your home is gorgeous! What was your favorite room to makeover and why?

Thank you! My favorite rooms to makeover have definitely been my girls’ rooms. I felt like there were really no rules – I could really get creative and play with color, pattern, and all of those sweet, whimsical elements that really make a child’s room feel special. Plus I loved adding personal touches like the tree mural in Violet’s nursery and the cloud mural in Violet’s big girl room.

A-Lovely-Lark-Violet's-Room-Update-6A-Lovely-Lark-Living-Room-Family-Room-Art-Wall-15A-Lovely-Lark-Wood-Floors-Kitchen-RenovationWhat has been your favorite DIY project? Tell us about it!

My favorite recent DIY Project was the water table that I created for the girls this summer. They are both obsessed with water and I wanted to give them a fun, but safe place to play outside while I was pulling weeds or doing other not-so-fun outdoor chores. At the same time I didn’t want a plastic monstrosity that would sit on my patio for a few years and then be shipped off to the donation pile or a landfill somewhere. So instead I created a DIY water table out of a thrifted side table and a deep metal tray. It took a little elbow grease, but they love it. We can also use it as a sensory table with sand or rocks in the cooler fall months, and I love that when they outgrow it it could take on a new purpose as a pretty outdoor planter.

DIY-Water-Table-A-Lovely-Lark-3What do you like best about your work? What is the most challenging?

I love having a creative outlet. While I absolutely love and cherish my role as a mother, since having children I’ve sometimes felt like I lost a piece of myself. My needs are no longer first and finding time for those things that were previously my hobbies and interests can be very difficult. Blogging has helped me to hold onto a little piece of myself that I otherwise feel like would be completely swept away in the crazy ride that is motherhood. I also love that I have a way to support my family that allows me to spend more time with my girls. My writing has allowed me to take over a year of unpaid maternity leave and to recently return to work part-time rather than full-time. I’ve also met some really amazing people through the blogging world. The thing I’m currently finding the most challenging is just having the time and energy to write after a long day of work, making meals, giving baths, romping around the yard, playing princesses, reading books, and you know, just being a human being. The most important thing for me is being present for my girls and maintaining a strong and healthy relationship with my husband. My family comes first, and finding a balance between work, motherhood, marriage, and writing has been especially challenging.

photo 1How would you describe your style?

I would definitely describe it as happy and whimsical, with a mix of both traditional and modern elements. I have an equal love of the bright, clean feeling of white and bold, vibrant color, so I love creating rooms with a very light overall palette that have pops of color throughout. I also enjoy playing with pattern and texture, so I’ve used a lot of wallpaper, playful fabrics, and patterned rugs throughout my home.

IMG_2660 A-Lovely-Lark-DIY-Banner-5If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

I’m kind of obsessed with Peter Walsh and would be insanely thrilled to have him work with me on organizing my home. Back in the Oprah days I used to dream that he would – Surprise! – show up at my door. Unfortunately, (considering that I’m not a hoarder) I knew that it would never happen, but a girl can dream, right?! While I do my best with keeping the toys and general clutter under control, I just know that there are all sorts of tips and tricks that he could teach me for making the most of our tiny home.

Do you have advice for other working moms?

You’re doing okay, ma. When you start to feel that mom guilt creeping in or those feelings that you aren’t enough, remember that you’re doing the very best you can for your kids and you’re enough. I love the saying, “You can do anything, but not everything.” It’s helped me to remember to choose what I’m going to make a priority in my life and I try to do my very best at those few things. I may have a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, I might not craft up Martha Stewart-worthy Halloween costumes, or create perfectly styled Bento-box lunches, but do you know what? That’s okay. If you’re keeping your kids safe and making them feel loved, then you’re doing it right, period.

A Lovely Lark AboutIf you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

I absolutely loved our honeymoon to Germany and Austria and would go back in a heartbeat. I’d also love to visit more European countries – they’re just so different from our young country. I’ve visited Australia a few times now (my sister and her family live there), and while it’s so unique and beautiful in its own way, there’s nothing quite like the sense of history and depth that you experience in Europe.

What are your 3 favorite Rosenberry Rooms products?

1. Aden + Anais swaddle blankets

2. Blabla Knit Dolls (Love Wooly the Sheep!)

3. Little Auggie’s Pretty With Pink collection

Laurens-PicksWhat’s next for A Lovely Lark (upcoming events, projects, etc.)?

I’m so excited to be putting the finishing touches (finally) on Lucy’s nursery! I’m currently working with Restoration Hardware to finish off the space and I’m thrilled with how it’s all coming together. I’m also working on my annual holiday gift guides, which are always super fun to put together!DSC05693Be sure to check out Lauren’s blog, A Lovely Lark, for beautiful inspiration and fun DIY projects!

Celebrity Nursery Reveal: Stylist Simone Harouche!

Celebrity stylist Simone Harouche works with a diverse group of clients including Nicole Richie, Christina Aguilera, Panic at the Disco, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus and more. She has also managed several fashion ad campaigns, including Guess by Marciano and her work has been featured in the likes of Vanity Fair, InStyle, Black Book, Cosmo, and Rolling Stone. With her self-proclaimed love of “things that look a little creepy“, we were very intrigued to see what she and decorator Courtney Applebaum came up with for Simone’s son Dashiel’s nursery.

Simone Harouche Nursery featured

Featured in the premier edition of Domain Home, Simone’s nursery is probably unlike any nursery you’ve ever seen. “I want robots and airplanes, and an owl, I’m into horses and Native American stuff, and my dad’s Egyptian—so maybe put some hieroglyphics on there” said Simone. All of these elements were incorporated into the space and Simone says that both she and baby Dash love it. She says her son stares at the wall all the time so although strange, which is exactly what Simone wanted, you have to admit, it surely could spark a little one’s interest.

Owl Dream Ring

I love the owl dream ring because it is so unique! It’s a great alternative to a traditional mobile. The dream rings look so cute grouped together and hanging in front of a window.

Gabriella Bunk Bed

The Gabriella Bunk Bed is the prettiest girl’s bunk bed set I have ever seen! When I was little, sharing a room with my sister, this bunk bed with rosettes and beaded details would have been my dream and I especially love how it separates into twin beds.

Shaggy Raggy Rug

I love the shaggy raggy rug because it’s fun, colorful and durable and can be used in either a nursery or a child’s room. You really can’t go wrong with it!

Everyday Is A New Opportunity Vintage Framed Art Print

If I have to choose just one, then I must go for Sugarboo Designs. I am obsessed with the entire collection for its unique aesthetic and the inspirational messages the designs convey. From the first moment I saw this piece, it’s been one of my faves from Sugarboo. It would look amazing in any sophisticated, vintage nursery or kids room, but I’d love to see it hanging in my breakfast nook.

Mary BethMary Beth

Eden Diaper Bag

I love this versatile diaper bag BabyBeau. It can also be used as a stylish handbag for when you no longer have the need for a diaper bag. The camel color of the leather is beautiful and the spacious interior makes it extremely functional.

Traffic Green Play Carpet

Now that I have my first son on the way, I’m looking forward to getting to play with him on one of these play carpets. They are educational and fun for both kids and parents.

Riley Round Mirror

A mirror is my favorite decor element to add to a room. It opens up the space, it’s functional and this gorgeous option comes in several colors to accent any room design. Oh, and what’s not to love about the ornate scroll frame?

Meadow Play Blanket

DwellStudio‘s Meadow bedding is one of my favorite products right now. I love the clean design and sophisticated color palette! It’s first on my list for my daughter’s big girl room!

Paulina Pendant

One of my favorite lines that we carry is Stray Dog Designs. I love everything they do! Their products are so unique and I love that they use quality recycled materials and bright colors to create their designs.

Chair Art

I love this picture because my favorite place to be is at the beach. I always take my beach chair and place it in the ocean like the one in the photo. It would be perfect in a serene, coastal style nursery.

Burlap Children’s Playroom Tent

Our burlap tent by Twelve Timbers is so cool! The colorful pennants add a great, personal touch.

Hooded Towel – Unicorn

I bought this for my daughter and I cannot say enough about it. Not only is it absolutely adorable, it is super thick and plush. I have had it for over a year and it has withstood many trips to the pool, to the beach, and most importantly the washing machine and dryer.

Outdoor Chaise with Umbrella

This item is perfect for a child who needs to relax after a long week. The cabana stripes give it a nautical feel just in time for summer!

Personalized Beach Towel

I love the personalized beach towels. With so many bright colors and cute designs, these super soft towels are perfect for Summer!

In My Diaper Bag with Susie Fougerousse

Rosenberry Rooms owner and mother of 5 kids ranging in age from 14 to 1, Susie Fougerousse knows all about how to stay prepared on the go. Today she is sharing the top 10 things she keeps in her diaper bag (including her favorite bag) that she can’t live without. The list includes essentials for both her and the kids that help keep them happy and her sane.

1. The Germinator Hand Sanitizer – This hand sanitizer is safe for little hands and doesn’t dry out your skin.

2. Hard Headband with Yellow Geranium – My three year old is obsessed with headbands, so I keep a spare on hand.

3. Griffin Survivor Extreme-Duty iPhone Case – I drop my phone at least once a day, and every so often it falls in a puddle, so this is a must.

4. Starbucks – I can’t start my day without iced coffee.  If I have the time in the morning, I make my own at home so I can skip the drive-thru.

5. Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color…..for days when I’m feeling extra pale.  Bobbi Brown Blue Raspberry is the best.

6. Tambour Bird Rattle and Octavio Bird Rattle – Bird rattles from blabla – soft, sweet and portable.

7. Cosmopolitan Carry All in Key Lime Cream Cake – I love alliteration, and I really love this bag.  I think it speaks for itself!

8. Dreamer Swaddle Wrap 4-pack – I love these soft, lightweight blankets – I always keep one on hand.

9. In My Tree by Sara Gillingham – My 1 year old likes to play with this book – and I love the illustrations by Lorena Siminovich.

10. Purple Coach Sunglasses – I can’t live (or see) without these glasses.  Mine are prescription, and they sure are pretty.

What item or items are must haves in your diaper bag? Tell us in the comments below!

Real Rosenberry Rooms Round 2 Winner!

Congratulations to the winner of our 2nd Real Rooms Contest, Jennifer Rice! She created this fun and funky pink and black nursery for her adorable daughter Zoe. The black accents are a modern take on the traditional nursery colors and make a bold statement in this fabulous room. Keep reading to see more photos of this stunning nursery and find out which RosenberryRooms.com products Jennifer used to create this dream room for her baby girl.

On the crib you see the Amore Crib Bedding by Doodlefish as well as the Bird Topiary and Bunny Topiary Canvas Reproductions in green frames, also by Doodlefish! Not to mention the two Blabla dolls little Zoe is snuggled up to, one of them being the adorable Bamboo Doll. On the wall is the Tree Branches Peel & Stick Appliques which she added little birdies to that coincide with those in the canvases.

On the floor in front of both the crib and the changing table, you will notice the super popular Pink Shaggy Raggy Rugs by The Rug Market! On the rocker is the Amore Large Bolster Pillow that ties in with the crib bedding and on the dresser is an adorable Polka Dot Piggy Bank. I love how she carried the branches from the wall decal to above the changing table as well. The cohesiveness of this room is what makes it truly wow-worthy!

Congratulations again to Jennifer and her daughter Zoe! They will get to choose a set of Custom Wall Letters in the design of their choice from the options found here! I’m sure these will look great in Zoe’s big girl room since it looks like she is all grown up now! 🙂

Thank you to all of those who entered our 2nd Real Rooms Contest and Giveaway. Each nursery was simply amazing and I am so glad we got a chance to feature them for our fans to see! The elegant and sophisticated nursery from Michelle Yanover was a VERY close second! If you also have a nursery or kid’s room you would like to share with us, please email pictures to facebook@rosenberryrooms.com and stay tuned for details of our next contest!

Thank you again to our Custom Wall Letters design team for sponsoring this contest!

Rachel Zoe's Nursery for Baby Skyler

Fashion icon and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, recently shared her gorgeous nursery for baby boy Skyler with ABC News! It is no surprise that the nursery was filled with modern furniture and accessories as well as an enviable closet including a baby Gucci bomber jacket and enough clothes for him to wear multiple outfits a day and never miss a style beat! In the nursery, which Zoe refers to as “Skyler’s little paradise” you will find some of our favorite products which can also be found on RosenberryRooms.com!

The centerpiece of the room is Skyler’s crib which is the Roh Crib by Spot on Square, all decked out in the Cobblestone Three Piece Crib Set in Taupe from Oilo! This crib bedding brings a rustic nature to her modern nursery and is a definite focal point in the room. It also matches perfectly with the Hermes Avalon Blanket (wow!) you see draped over the crib! According to PetitTresor, who designed the nursery, it also includes the Oeuf Mini Library which features a high-end modern design for all of Skyler’s odds and ends (which in this case, probably includes tons of designer baby shoes and accessories as well as the Johnny Boogaloos Doll from Blabla!)  I for one can’t wait to see what stylish and potentially outrageous outfits little Skyler will be rockin’ with a fashionable mom like Rachel Zoe!
