Design Inspiration: Chloe’s Big Girl Room by Winter*Daisy

Perhaps you’re searching for some inspiration for your little darling’s ‘big girl’ room? This can be a tricky task as you move from sweet nursery into a territory that you may not be sure how to navigate! One of Rosenberry Rooms’ favorite designers – Melissa of Winter*Daisy – has created the perfect whimsical haven for one lucky girl named Chloe.

chloe room bed view

The room is the perfect harmony between modern and girly, with the gold accents balancing out the soft lavender walls and patchwork style quilt.

The addition of the tent in the reading nook gives Chloe the perfect place to sit with friends and debrief on the day’s events at school, or curl up on a rainy day with a book on the sheepskin rug.

It can be difficult to know how to decorate bare walls without going overboard, however Melissa has achieved this seamlessly! The gold decals used for one of the accent walls have been framed and utilized as artwork to bring the theme together.

The Chloe print next to the bed allows this little girl to feel that this is her big girl space, and it looks adorable and highlights the mauve wall. By painting the recessed wall over the bed a different color, it eliminates the need for a tall headboard and allows for endless decorating possibilities for above your child’s bed.

The design of this room works so well because it allows Chloe a bright and soft space to grow in and explore, without sacrificing any of the wonder or whimsy of the carefully curated nursery that she is transitioning out of.

Nursery Design Tips from Tori Swaim:
How to Design Your Dream Nursery

We are excited to share some nursery design tips from Tori Swaim! Tori is a mom of three, designer and the brilliant mind behind New Arrivals Inc. Tori has tons of experience designing spaces for little ones, and she has shared some ideas to help you get inspired.

There are so many online resources for nursery design inspiration right at your finger tips! Some of my favorites include Houzz, Pinterest and Decorpad. Design blogs are also a great resource for gathering ideas. Deciding on your favorite colors and patterns will help you get started on creating your dream nursery! A good starting point for your nursery design is the baby bedding.

Start by visiting a fabric store and gathering swatches of your favorite fabrics. Separate your swatches into color groups. Spend some time playing around with different color combinations and throw in fun patterns as well. You can also create a mood board by searching for colors samples and patterns online.

swatch and accessories collage

Next, decide which group has your favorite colors and patterns. Think about whether or not these fabrics will coordinate well with other items you have in mind for your room (furniture, lighting, decor, ect). Choose one main patterned fabric and then coordinate basic patterns around it. Decide where you will use the main fabric. Usually the main fabric will be used on the crib skirt or crib bumper. Coordinating basics are perfect for the sheet and changing pad cover. The main fabric is also good for curtain panels and throw pillows. Mixing and matching patterns and colors will create visual interest.

After you’ve decided on colors and patterns for your crib bedding, it’s time to select paint and coordinating decor. Pull together a few paint samples and match them to your bedding fabrics. It’s also a good idea to take paint samples and fabric swatches with you when shopping for other nursery items. This will help you visualize how items will look once they are all in the room together.

Non-toxic paint is great for nurseries

Designing a nursery can be overwhelming.  Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to decide on colors, fabrics, furniture and room decor. It’s never too early to start coming up with ideas and getting inspiration. Pinterest is a great starting point and a great way to keep your ideas organized.

Whatever you do, design a nursery that makes you smile.  After all, you will be spending a lot of time there once your little one arrives!

A little bit vintage, a little bit abstract and a whole lot of fun! Eclectica Kiddo believes art can create a positive, creative and inspirational space for your child. They offer a collection of fine art and unique designs by talented artists from all around the world. If you are looking for art just for kids that will transform their room into a modern, magical and fun space you have found it! Meet the ladies who make this magical collection a reality!

Name: Laura Liatis (& Emily Mann)
Business: Eclectica Kiddo
cofounders-emily-mann-and-laura-liatisHow would you define the style philosophy and style of your work?
Eclectica Kiddo is really all about presenting modern and imaginative artwork of the highest quality, designed especially for children. We believe in good design for everyone, and we have a strong conviction that beautiful spaces inspire creative thinking.

Why did you choose to create children’s art?
Emily and I spent many years working in fine art consulting, which we both loved, before starting our own families. But when we had our own kiddos, we both decided we needed to take a break from the non-stop travel and long hours and do something that would work better for our families. Also, we very quickly realized that we could not find the quality of artwork that we wanted for our own kids’ spaces, and that was really frustrating for two gals who had always loved art so much! There are so many gorgeous and finely crafted cribs and dressers available now, but it seemed like there was a hole in the market for some amazing, high quality artwork for kids. Emily is a very creative person and talented artist in her own right, and I have a long background in dealing with the business side of art and am obsessed with quality control, so we decided to pool our skills and challenge some of the talented contemporary artists that we knew in order to see what they could create especially for children’s spaces — and the results blew us away!
cribWhat is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
It is truly such a pleasure to work with images and artists that we believe in so strongly. There are few things more rewarding than searching for and finding the perfect artist and imagery. I am not an artist myself, so the entire creative process always completely and totally amazes me, and it is fun for me to watch ideas unfold and see the work in progress sketches evolve into the final image.

It has also been very interesting for us to see which images in the line people are responding to best and how they are using them in their design. Between Emily and I, we have four kids preschool-aged and under, so we have a totally amazing in-house test audience to interact with who will always tell us exactly what they think about our new ideas and imagery! (Honest Toddler, anyone?) We are looking forward to continuing to find new artists and to produce fresh imagery which will appeal to design-minded parents.
What sets your products apart from others in your industry?
The most unique part of Eclectica Kiddo’s products is the amazing, inspiring imagery. We love that many of the artists that we work with had never created artwork specifically for children before, so the imagery they created is distinctive and playful, but also sophisticated and multi-faceted.

Also, we are completely fanatic about quality. We only work with the most talented artists, craftsmen, and framers in order to produce products which we are very proud to carry. By having both wonderful imagery and very high standards for quality, I think we can offer artwork which can be enjoyed and loved for many years – beyond the nursery and the playroom years.

And, although our artists may come from around the globe, we are deeply committed to creating all of our products by hand here in the USA. I think this is something a lot of our customers appreciate as well.
Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?
Yes!  There are lots of exciting things in the works here at Eclectica Kiddo.

We are working with some of our current artists as well as with a few new artists to collaborate and see what inspires them next as we will be adding fresh new imagery to the line about twice a year. We also will soon be releasing a series of adorable small works on panel which can be hung as a grouping or in a gallery wall.

And there are lots more ideas floating around EK headquarters about new products, special art events for kids we will be hosting with our retailers, and lots more, so please keep your ears open to see what comes up next!

What is the inspiration behind the ‘Sweet & Modern’ design inspiration board? What style/mood does the artwork give?
“Morning on the Lake” and “Under the Lanterns” by Kelsey Garrity Riley are just such wonderful images and a couple of our very favorites. She has an incredible talent and is so unique in that her artwork combines a charming, vintage flair while still being a bit quirky and fun. And it is so compatible with contemporary design, so it is perfect for the style of artwork at Eclectica Kiddo.
Rosenberry-Rooms-KGRWe thought these pieces would be wonderful in a nursery, especially a nursery for a lucky little girl. These images are so very feminine and sweet without being overly traditionally pink or girly. They are images which will inspire a child to imagine a whole wonderful fairy tale with these fanciful scenes — every time I look at them I see some new, sweet detail. But I don’t think they are strictly nursery art; they are elegant enough to be treasured for many, many years and move into an older child’s room. Actually, I have these pieces hanging in my personal office because I find them so delightful. They are framed in a gorgeous natural maple veneer frame which blends well with the natural woods which we are quite popular now in nursery design. We selected a variety of products by amazing companies like BlaBla, Ouef, and Ferm Living that produce distinctive, high quality children’s décor, with which we are proud to be associated. I love the combination of different textures – the juxtaposition of tones gives this nursery a more sophisticated look which will allow it to grow with the child for many years.

If your a mom who loves a new take on traditional styles then you have found a perfect match with Eclectica Kiddo. The sweet characters and playful scenes shown throughout the collection are sure to be loved by your child and you!

Checkerboard’s reputation for personalized and customized products beyond stationery is the premise behind our newest offering, Checkerboard Lifestyle. CheckerboardWhy did you choose to create children’s art as well as home decor?
We’ve been well known for our birth announcements and children’s birthday party invitations for years and for this reason, we feel we have a unique understanding of what parents want from a design perspective to celebrate their child. Moving into décor with our designs for kids is a natural evolution.

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?
We’re incredibly lucky to be in the business of happiness. Whether our products are purchased for one’s own use or as a gift, we continually hear that our products surprise and delight. What a fun thing to be able to do everyday!
PillowsWhat sets your products apart from others in your industry?
Well, we think are design aesthetic is pretty special. We’re on trend but not too trendy. Our products can live happily in your home for years, not just one season. And, Rosenberry Rooms offers a great selection of our personalized products. There is nothing that puts a smile on a child’s face (or a Mom’s face, for that matter) than something personalized just for them. And at a reasonable price!

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?
Boy, one is not easy to do. Let me give you a few for different purposes. For a gift for a newborn, I love the Baby Banner throw pillow (and the Baby Bunting wall décor). Totally fun, great colors, simple and clean aesthetic.
ArtMy father collects anything that is ‘Elephant’ so a gift of our wall art item for him was a big hit. Our Zoo wall art collection showcases all different type of zoo animals from crocodiles to zebras. And, for each animal, their unique attributes are highlighted. For example, did you know that elephants have a way of using their ears to regulate their body temperature? I’d put a piece from the Zoo Collection on my wall just because it looks good but other folks might buy it as a learning tool (plus it looks good)!
crikeyFinally, I have our Urban Chic placemats at my home and I use them for dinner parties. My guests love them and of course, the personalization knocks socks off!
PlacematsDo you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?
We have some new designs particularly for kids and babies coming soon. Emily of Rosenberry Rooms gave us feedback on many of these designs while they were in planning stage. We look forward to launching them soon on Rosenberry Rooms!

Now Just for Fun:
Favorite Food:
Probably the better question is what food don’t I like? We really love to entertain and I try to prepare something I’ve never tried before at every dinner party. It’s called living dangerously. You never know what might happen but I’ve had surprisinglyfew disasters. But the few I’ve had have been pretty spectacular disasters – fortunately with good friends!

Favorite TV Show: This week it is House of Cards. Ask me again next week.

Favorite Movie: I loved Hugo. Great story and equally beautifully filmed.

Favorite Weekend Activity: I’m a hiker. I take my little Border Terrier and head for the hills.

Favorite Band: Well, I suspect I will disappoint here. I think I was born in the wrong era. I’m not a current music buff. Give me a little Frank Sinatra or Etta James and I’m happy.

Meet JP of Oliver and Mabel!

oliver shoot1We have an artist we cannot wait for you to meet! This creative mind is also extremely giving; JP Kilkenny donates 7% of sales to help keep stray dogs healthy and cared for. If that is not enough to make your heart feel warm and fuzzy, the name of his company, Oliver and Mabel is named after JP’s own adopted dog, Oliver, seen above. How sweet? You can truly feel his love for dogs and all animals by looking at the bright and whimsical designs.

The latest employee and newest member of the family is Petey. JP shared Petey’s story and it had a few of us at our desks in tears! Hint: grab a tissue!

“Petey is known by the state troopers in our area as “Red”.  Apparently someone dropped him off and abandoned him on the interstate. For over a month and a half, he returned everyday and waited for hours – in the spot he was dropped off for his owner to return for him.  The State troopers did not have the heart to pick him up (as they knew he would be destroyed) – so they looked for him everyday and threw hamburgers out their windows for him to eat.
Beginning of December – my photographer called me about the dog (Petey) that was hanging out at his business.  He was very thin, skittish and shaking with the cold.  He was sleeping outside under wet leaves near their heating oil tank. That was all I needed to hear.  After a month of going back and fourth – providing an igloo and food twice a day, – I could not take it any longer – so on Christmas morning we went and brought him home.  Oliver immediately adopted Petey as his brother – they sleep, eat and play together.
You will be seeing him in future artwork.”

As if we needed another reason to love JP and his amazing company! The work he does is truly amazing and we are beyond excited to share it with all of you.

Name: JP Kilkenny
Business: Oliver & Mabel

How would you define the style philosophy of your work?
Oliver and Mabel all started when a little stray puppy came and sat at my feet and leaned against my leg. . This little guy was so full of love and wonder that he captivated our hearts. Oliver inspired me to “give something back” by “paying it forward”. It was at that moment that Oliver and Mabel was created. Not only do we donate part of our profits to the rescue and welfare of stray, unwanted dogs but promote a universal message of love and respect for all creatures, embracing those who need our help and assisting them on their journey to a better life.

Why did you choose to create children’s art?
If you want to make an impact on society what better way than through our children. It is important to me that every child has the opportunity to express their imagination and their independence. In “Butterfly Girl” or “Kite Boy” – I want a child to gaze into the piece and loose themselves in a land of wonder and limitless possibilities.

SideBySide4What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is the most rewarding?
It’s usually in the early afternoon when I am sat at my desk, focused on the project in front of me. Music in the background, pups fast asleep after their walk. I am focused on the image in my mind and painting without distraction.

SideBySideWhat sets your art apart from others in your industry?
There are so many talented artists out there who are developing great images for children. I feel that my work has a “voice”. It’s not only a pretty picture but carries a positive message that communicates to children across the globe. The paintings are timeless and can be passed on from one generation to another. I hope the children of today will see a butterfly or a kite or a dog years from now and remember my painting that hung on their childhood bedroom wall that expanded their horizons and gave them joy and wonder.

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection what would it be?
POP DOG is my favorite piece. The idea came to me in a whirlwind. The image was so clear in my mind that I was able to break it down into steps and compose it like a jigsaw. I wanted the piece to be interactive, educational and fun. Oliver – takes center stage – but represents all our dogs. Children can color-in the image to match their own doggie at home – or imaginary best friend. Along side the dog image are words that your child can learn how to spell that are associated with their pooch – ex. SIT, BONE, WOOF, e.t.c Children can also seek out the bones in the painting and count how many there are.

PopDogDo you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming lines or introductions to your line?
I am always working on new ideas. Besides developing more artwork, I am currently working on a line of T-shirts, pillows and small wire sculptures. I am thinking about writing and illustrating a children’s book using my pups as the main characters.

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food?
Cheese! I could have cheese with anything. Unfortunately I am one of those “fussy” eaters and have not eaten meat in over 30 years – but give me a piece of cheese and I am perfectly content.

Favorite TV show?
No matter what I am doing – where I am – everything must stop for Project Runway! I love to watch the creation of a garment from idea to runway ready. I am constantly inspired not only by their creations but their speed and focus meeting their short deadline.

Favorite movie?
My favorite and first movie I ever saw was Mary Poppins. I remember the whole experience – My father took me to a beautiful red and gilded cinema in Yorkshire, England. I was completely mesmerized by the film – captivated by the colors – animation and music. As soon as I got home, I started drawing characters for my own imaginary world, creating elaborate stories – all set to the music of Mary Poppins.

Favorite weekend activity?
There is nothing better than being able to paint the weekend through. My family all around me – pups snuggled on the sofa, watching old black and white movies, the smell of food cooking. I love to be deeply engrossed in a painting and to look up to see everyone snoozing and content. There’s nothing better!

Favorite band?
I cannot say that I have one favorite band in particular. I listen to all types of music from English Nun’s chanting to Island Reggae to current Pop to 80’s New Wave. It really all depends on the mood I am in at the time. For the past couple of years I have been obsessed with French music. Most of the time I cannot understand what they are singing about but the language is so beautiful to hear. I am able to paint/create without the influence of lyrics yet I can feel the mood of the song and the spirit of the French culture.

MabelGreat art and a great cause! Oliver and Mabel offers original and inspiring kids art that will fill your nursery or playroom with instant joy anytime you look at your piece and remember this heart warming story!

Meet Darlene of Creative Carpet Design!

Darlene of Creative Carpet DesignCan’t seem to find that perfect rug in just the right colors for your baby’s nursery or child’s room? Design your own with Creative Carpet Design‘s custom rugs! Bring out your inner designer with custom options that give you the freedom to create any kind of personalized rug imaginable, custom made just for you. The ability to design your own rug, your way, is just what founder Darlene Farmer had in mind when she created her line of custom rugs for kids. This adorable collection allows you to choose everything from the size to the shape to the color of your rug and on top of all that, you can even personalize it with your little one’s initials or monogram for a truly one-of-a-kind design. Check out our interview with Darlene as she shares with us some of her favorite customer-designed rugs and announces some new additions to her line!

How would you define Creative Carpet Design’s style philosophy?

Our design philosophy is summed up by our motto, “It’s your rug…your way” We want to always allow the customer to be able to have a custom rug where they can choose how they want their rug to look. They get to choose size, shape, colors and options they want in their custom rug such as an initial or monogram inlay, a border, polka dots or stripes and not have to settle for a mass produced rug.

What inspired you to become a designer?

As long as I can remember I have always been interested in design & decorating. I remember moving furniture and redecorating my parents home when I was just a child. It is a passion of mine. I have not been professionally trained, it is a God given talent and that coupled with  having an entrepreneurial mind has allowed me to be able to do it for a living along with my talented husband who is in charge of the manufacturing.

Why did you choose to design personalized children’s rugs?

Before creating our personalized children’s rugs, we created very high end custom rugs for our local clients. Those rugs ranged from $3,000-$6,500. I knew most people could not afford to pay that for a custom rug (including myself) so I decided to create custom rugs for children in fun, on trend colors that mostly everybody could afford. You no longer have to be a Donald Trump to have a custom rug for your child’s room.

lime green initial rug

red and white border rug

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

It is so rewarding to get emails & photos back from our customers saying how thrilled they are with their custom rug we created for them and to see the photos showing the custom rug in the room it was designed for. We LOVE that! Most of all though I would have to say giving of either our custom rugs to children who are battling illnesses through organizations such as Make A Wish or donating a percentage of profits to orphans through companies like Holt International, that is what is most rewarding!

lime green and pink intial rug

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

Wow, that is a hard question because they are all like my babies! I do love our custom initial & monogram rugs, but the polka dot rugs are so fun & happy, oh and our newest designs…the custom striped rug and custom double border rug…I love them all! They are all my favorites!

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

Meet Kim of DENY Designs + A Giveaway Announcement!

DENY Designs is one of the newest additions to! We are so excited to offer this unique collection of bedding, wall art and bathroom decor that exudes fresh and fun style! We recently had the chance to interview one of the co-founders of DENY, Kim Nyhus. With a modern, think-outside-the-box perspective, Kim and her husband Dustin started DENY hoping that it would become a collection that allowed customers to play a part in the creation of their own pieces. They’ve scoured the art world to create an extensive gallery for customers to choose from and have printed on things like duvet covers, shower curtains, throw pillows and more! Check out our interview with Kim below to find out more about how DENY got started and their plans for future product innovation!

*PLUS: Be sure to check out the GIVEAWAY details below too! Enter to win one of DENY Designs‘ stylish throw pillows or shower curtains for your home!*

Kim Nyhus of DENY DesignsHow would you define the DENY Designs style philosophy?

I’d classify our style as clean, modern, fun and vibrant!  We definitely do not shy away from color.

What inspired you to start DENY Designs?

It was a dream of Dustin and I’s. Dustin has a background in Industrial Design and Manufacturing and I come from the Marketing and Television Production worlds. So, together, it’s the perfect match. With a passion for the arts and furniture design, we launched the company with our staple product, the BlingBox. Over the past two years, we’ve expanded into textiles and wall art. We’re super excited at the response of the company and even more enthusiastic to see where we’re headed.

deny designs wall art

Why did you choose to offer custom bedding and decor?

There is this one moment that sticks out in my head. I went to my brother-in-law’s house and when I walked into the bathroom, he had the same shower curtain as I did. I don’t know why, but that was appalling to me. We knew we had to offer people different options than what is available at every big box store. Décor is an expression of your personality, so it should be unique and tell your story. I feel like that’s where DENY prospers.

floral shower curtain

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

My focus at DENY is on PR & Marketing, so I get giddy over some good press. Lately, we’ve been fortunate to be featured in some pretty amazing publications. It puts an extra bounce in my step.

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

This is so hard!  How do you choose one design from over 3,000? But if you’re twisting my arm, I’d say that I’m really drawn to Heather Dutton’s Triangulum and Bianca Green’s Chevron Flora 1. Valentina Ramos rocks my world too!

What sets DENY Designs apart from others designers in your industry?

First and foremost, it’s our relationship with our artists. When you buy from DENY, you support art communities from all over the world. We’re offering fun, inspiring pieces that all have a story behind them and they’re unique to each customer, as we don’t print the product until you order it. Also, we dye the fibers of the fabric instead of doing a traditional direct print, which means that you can wash all of our soft goods in the washer machine and they won’t fade!

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

2012 was a year of perfecting the quality of our product lines. 2013 is all about product development and we couldn’t be more excited! You’ll be seeing more introductions to the home office line that will knock your socks off!

Now…Just for Fun

Favorite Food – I’m Italian, so it’s pasta, pasta, pasta for me…especially gnocchi!

Favorite TV Show – I’m a big fan of “Girls” and “Mad Men”. And don’t tell anyone, but I’m completely addicted to The Bachelor. Next up on the TV list: starting Downton Abbey.

Favorite Movie – The Notebook does it for me. Total chick flick, but I love it and cry every single time.

Favorite Weekend Activity – Dustin and I have twin 3 year-old boys, so most of our weekends are spent hanging out with them.  We really enjoy going to the mountains and getting some good quality time in, especially since our week days are filled with pure craziness. If I can get a little book reading and sunshine in too (even better if I’m actually reading while in the sunshine), I’m a happy camper.

Favorite Band – My musical tastes are all over the board. My old school favorite is Counting Crows. Lately, I’m into Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers and all things country (don’t judge…I went to school at SMU in Dallas and it completely grew on me)

Check out a few of her favorite pieces below and be sure to shop her full collection of children’s art at!

Artist Shelly KennedyHow would you define the style philosophy of your work?

Colorful and fun… classic yet current… meets.. sophisticated whimsy.

What inspired you to become an artist?

I have been an artist since as long as I can remember. I’m not exactly sure what originally inspired me . I have always been captivated by creative activities – painting, drawing, crafting, sewing… all of it!  When I was little, I’d spend hours decorating my doll house (wallpapering, painting tiny wall art to hang, sewing bedding, I once hand-painted mini bricks for the entire exterior of my dolls house and added mortar detail with a tooth pick – it took all summer!)

Why did you choose to create children’s art?

I tend to gravitate towards children’s illustrations and artwork with elements of whimsy and humor. When I was younger (high school and college) I painted many murals for children’s rooms (for friends and friends of friends – it was my side job!) When our first child was born we were living in an apartment and could not paint on the walls- so I hung up a large canvas to cover the walls – and started painting a magical scene with a swimming swan and the man in the moon! We still have that very first one… it has moved from and to many houses with us!  That is how drooz studio started… that first wallhanging in 1997… I started to sell to local baby boutiques in the Chicago area – and then branched out nationally a few years later.

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I enjoy when I get a chance to talk to customers (which unfortunately is not very often) I like to hear the stories about how my art has touched them or their children – how it inspires a first word or bedtime ritual, how it was celebrated in a move to a big “kid” bed or new house, or how drooz art has become a family tradition gift for each child or grandchild.

What sets your art apart from others in your industry?

I try my best just to “design from the heart” – keeping in mind current color trends and themes – but always creating a piece that I’d be thrilled to hang in my own home. Over the years this industry has just exploded with art & artists – there are now so many choices for consumers… it is really a challenge to stay fresh and ahead of the game! I find it an interesting challenge to balance the maturing of my style and the direction it takes – nurturing it to grow, but not change it so much as to deviate from the look and brand of drooz I have worked to developed.

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

That’s not easy but I’d have to say the You Are A Work of Art Canvas Reproduction. I, of course, love the image itself… but more importantly love the message it illustrates. A gentle reminder of how special we all are – all different, all masterpieces, all meant to inspire others..sometimes praised, sometimes criticized, sometimes lifting the mood, sometimes depicting loneliness or darkness, but always a precious, treasured, individual creation that should be celebrated.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming designs or introductions to your line?

I’ve just developed a collection of travel inspired pieces for Oopsy Daisy – “come away with me” featuring Paris, New York, Venice, India, Japan & London. I’m looking forward to adding to the line – I’m headed to Morocco and Madrid next week… so I know I’ll find more inspiration there. I feel a shift happening in my design style. For over thirteen  years I designed art geared towards infants and toddlers. Now, and as my own children are growing up, I have been inspired to “grow” my design style as well.

I’m  working on more designs for teens, home and family.

What inspired you to become a designer?

Growing up in a small town in Northern California, it never really occurred to me that becoming a designer was even a possibility.  Although, I was always creating something – either drawing, painting, writing or sewing. It wasn’t until I came across the Fashion Institute located in Downtown LA that I realized I could make a profession out of being creative. After I realized that, the decision was made!

Why did you choose to design children’s bedding and decor?

I initially started as a Design Assistant for an apparel company in LA but I always knew that I wanted to work on something that was more hands on and with more of a variety of products. From there I sort of fell into the baby industry and soon realized it was the perfect fit for me. I love being able to design a wide range of products from bedding, to plush toys, to lamps & room decor that all work back to the nursery. It’s a bonus to think that these products truly make people happy and that it’s one of the most joyous purchases a young couple makes!

What is your favorite part of your daily work when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

I love coming up with the initial concept and the overall design process…but I have to say the most rewarding part of my job is, after months of development, finally seeing product reach the end consumer looking just as good as I first imagined it!

If you had to pick a favorite piece from your collection, what would it be?

My favorite piece from the Lolli Living collection (right now) is the Owl Play Mat. I have a 7 month old daughter and it’s perfect for diaper changes on the floor (which is what we’ve resorted to since she doesn’t want to sit still anymore:).  I also love the canvas art – it’s not too baby so I can keep it in her room for years to come!
