Meet Melisa of Project Nursery!

Project Nursery is by far one of our favorite sites for design inspiration, stunning children’s rooms and great advice on the latest and greatest in the industry. Melisa Fluhr and Pam Ginocchio are the stars behind this go-to site for moms, moms-to be, designers, party stylists and so much more. If any of those titles apply to you and you haven’t been over to their site, I encourage you to go, right now! Well maybe not right this second because you dont want to miss our interview with one half of this amazing team, Melisa Fluhr, as she shares what inspired her to start Project Nursery, some of her most memorable design projects as well as an exciting announcement she is sharing here first!  Enjoy!

What inspired you to start a blog devoted to children’s spaces and parties?

In 2008, I told my husband that I wanted an HGTV makeover. He laughed it off but I was determined. My dream came true in only a matter of days for the HGTV show, “Rate My Space”, and in the form of a master bedroom makeover. I then uploaded my son’s nursery onto their website and it quickly rose to the top viewed nursery. Before I knew it, I was shelling out nursery advice to expecting parents about my own nursery. My dear friend and talented business partner, Pam Ginocchio, and I realized that we could take our love for children’s design and share it with parents online, everywhere!

What is your favorite part of your daily work … when you reflect on the day, what is most rewarding?

It’s popping into our Project Gallery where Project Nursery members upload their own nurseries or toddler rooms to inspire others. I love to read the comments that say, Project Nursery and members of our PN community, have inspired them or that they couldn’t have done it without us. This is truly the reason why we do what we do!

Do you have any advice for other working moms?

Hang in there fellow moms! It’s not always easy but making sure it’s doing something that you genuinely love makes it so worthwhile.

What is your most memorable room design and/or event feature on

My own kids rooms! After all, it’s what’s started it all…Modern Baby Blue

And Chase’s Black, White and Yellow Nursery

If you could design a room or plan a party for anyone in the world, who would it be?

We’re waiting for Reese Witherspoon to call us 😉

What thing/place/event were you most recently inspired by?

My cross-country move to NYC this year from Los Angeles has really inspired my decorating choices. I’ve had to quickly learn how to come up with space saving solutions and identify with the urban mom. It’s challenged me to blog from a slightly different perspective these days.

Where is your favorite place you have travelled to?

I honeymooned in Thailand. It would be a treat to go back and enjoy more of Southeast Asia.

Where in the world are you dying to go next?

My brother is living in Taiwan and I have a very good friend in Hong Kong. I cannot wait to visit!

What is your favorite Rosenberry Rooms product(s)?

Where to begin? Rosenberry Rooms is my first stop for rugs, art and lighting. The selection is HUGE so I know I can find anything I need with just a simple search. If I could buy anything right now from your store for my own home, it would be:

The Ricki Bunk Bed by Newport Cottages, the Elizabeth Diaper Bag in Camel by Storksak and the Junior Beanbag in Turquoise by Fatboy.

Do you have any news that you would like to share, perhaps about upcoming events or projects?

Okay, so this is really big! We’re launching “PROJECT JUNIOR” this summer. In fact, you’re the first to hear about this. We believe it’s important to enjoy “A Well-Designed Life With Kids”. We look forward to continuing the journey with our Project Nursery readers as our own children grow.

Now, just for fun:

Favorite Food: Chinese. I am half Chinese and I help my mom publish her recipes on our family blog:

Favorite TV Show: SMASH following The Voice. I am now officially obsessed with Monday night TV!

Favorite Movie: I am a huge sucker for “feel-good”, romantic comedies so I love them all. Unfortunately, I only get to catch up on them on a plane without the kids. I am that woman laughing out loud and then crying on the plane. The flight attendants sometimes stare.

Favorite Weekend Activity: Walking down the Battery Park City promenade along the water, in the sun, while our kids scooter.

Favorite Musician/Band: I have a life long love for U2, Guns N’ Roses and Madonna. However, I also can’t help but sing at the top of my lungs to Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink, Black Eyed Peas and even The Killers with my kiddos!
